The holidays are here! This is a time of gatherings with family and friends. Many times the gatherings are centered around a meal. If the celebration is at your family home, you can plan low protein items into the menu. If you are attending a gathering at a distant relative's or friend's home, the host or hostess may not fully understand your child's special diet. Here are some suggestions for how to ease into these gatherings:

  1. Call ahead to the host or hostess. You may be able to closely duplicate menu items with low protein items brought from home.
  2. Offer to bring a low protein item that everyone can sample.
  3. Try to keep your childâs leucine intake to a minimum prior to the event. This will allow for any higher protein item your child may sample.
