TOPIC: Can a Type 1 B Carrier have MSUD symptoms?
Can a Type 1 B Carrier have MSUD symptoms? 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hi, I am new to this support group. I recently had my DNA checked for any genetic abnormalities. I found out I am a carrier for the MSUD Type 1 B gene. I was wondering if a carrier could have symptoms of the actual disease? I ask because I did the genetic testing after a long, expensive road trying to figure out why I was feeling the way I was. I was tired all the time, had body aches, was loosing weight, irritable and I had noticed a strong sweet smell in my urine (but thought it was because I ate a lot of fruit). These changes came about after I had changed my diet to a higher protein diet. I am now wondering if the way I am feeling is because my body cannot properly digest certain proteins. In other words I do not have MSUD but maybe since I do have a variant in the BCKDHB gene I can experience slight symptoms of the actual disease. Has anyone else ever heard of this before? Thank you in advance for any input.
